WEEK TWO: Monday and Tuesday
This week we are working on what it means to treat our bodies like our instruments!
That's what actors have to do. So, we are paying attention to what we feed our instruments and how we maintain and take care of our instruments too!
On Monday, we played with tongue twisters. Actors have to get themselves ready to say a lot of words sometimes. Right now our favorite is: "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood." A close second is, "I scream. you scream, we all scream for ice cream." The choices are almost limitless. We even started making some up!
We even have a tongue-twisting word find!
We also did exercises that separate the body from the voice. Film dub is a game where we play either arms or bodies or voices.
Today we worked on exploring our hero underwater characters and then introducing a villain. We played around with the idea of PIRATES!
Miss Paula led us in a zoom dance outside to start off the day which really warmed up our instruments.
We spent the rest of the time building scenes and applying our knowledge of staging. We also played more games, including freeze tag.
Tomorrow we will continue to explore how we take care of our instruments as well as the idea of villains. Because we can't really build a dynamic story if EVERYONE is the good guy.
Tomorrow, we will also be introduced to the "prop table" and that's where we will keep our electronic devices during workshop time.
Miss Deb will bring her sewing machine to show us how to make 3D masks in the afternoon. She has a lot of fabric but welcomes anyone bringing their own as well. It just has to be quilting quality cotton fabric. (HEY! That sounds like another tongue twister!)
We're looking forward to tomorrow!
