WEEK THREE: Monday

Since we have covered the general idea of what theatre is in week one and since we explored our bodies as instruments in week two, we are very happy to have arrived here at week three! This week we learn about biography. Today we learned that biographies were the stories of people. And we began to think about what stories we might like to tell or see.

Today came with the love-seat exercise. We each took a turn sitting in the love-seat and one by one each camper told us what they loved about us.

Last week we ended up going rollerskating instead of horseback riding. It was just too hot for the horses and the campers outside! We really helped each other out and had a blast on Friday!!

Today also included journaling about an inspiring woman (real or fiction) and then getting up and telling the whole room about her. Overall we were inspired by the endurance of certain women. We loved how they just never give up and kept showing up and moving forward.

Here are our real and imagined inspirations of today:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name:  Inspiration

Spotted Leaf (a fictional cat): Friendship

Squirrel Flight (a fictional cat): Ability to jump high (to reach the unreachable)

My Mom (actual): Because she's my Mom

Magnet Girl (a fictional black girl superhero): Kindness, generosity, ability to capture both pizza robbers and bank robbers

Gray Matter, a story of Mia (actual sister): She keeps surviving a strong and rare cancer over and over and has the best outlook on life!

Suspicious, a story about Loon Freeman (the detective in a fictional play a camper has written): woman of conviction that overcomes obstacles

Tiffany (my actual Mom): a hardworking woman of conviction

Whitney Houston (actual): resiliency, hard work, and ability to sing

My Mom (actual): Hardworking, Independent, teaches you should push yourself (I don't know how she does it.)

We began the day with warmups led by Risa and Siomara with Miss Jess.

We took time today to talk about jealousy and competition. It's hard for some of us when we feel like others of us are more special. So we took time to talk about how everyone has something unique and significant to bring to the table. We are all different and that's a really good thing.

It's still hard for us to put our electronic devices away during workshop time. But, we continue to work on it.

Tomorrow Miss Mallory will be coming in at 11 to teach us how to sword fight! It's important that everyone wear closed-toed shoes with socks. If the weather is bad, we have permission to go to the armory at 5th and Montgomery to work inside.

For every second of dangerous work on stage or screen, there must be one hour of rehearsal to prepare. It's a strange thing to contemplate in the digital world we are living in.

We'll meet everyone wearing closed-toed shoes with (foam) swords tomorrow!
