THIRD DAY OF CAMP!

 07 July 21

DRAMA CLUB

Today was so much fun!! Before Drama Club, we hiked with Miss Robin over to the river.

And we even stopped in front of Venus Theatre and took some photographs! We couldn't go inside because Venus is under construction through the summer and fall but the river was pretty and we were glad to see where it is.

It so happens that Sip at C Street Flats is across the street! This Friday, manager Joe has promised to serve us some lunch by way of sandwiches and chips. When Sip was told we have some food allergies they appreciated the heads up and said they definitely use walnuts in their kitchen. It's exciting that a different restaurant in town is going to send some food over for lunch on Fridays! Big thanks to Sip (also today is Joe's BIRTHDAY!!)

Drama Club began, as it always does with table talk. Campers received critiques today. The tricky thing about that is you have to take in information but you're not allowed to respond. It's so challenging! Everyone did GREAT!! After that, we talked about Shakespeare, the Elizabethan era, and how stage directions were born from that time. Then we practiced taking stage directions and we NAILED IT!

Then, we did a visualization exercise. It was kind of a challenge because we had to stand up in neutral and close our eyes. A lot of us didn't like keeping our eyes closed. But, we visualized an underwater underworld called, Atlantis. We imagined ourselves as characters in this world and we took in the sights, sounds, and smells. From here, we imagined our familial connections and contemplated where we came from and where we were headed.

This exercise was then taken outside where the sprinkler was on. Some of us avoided the water altogether, And some of us could not get enough of it. Then we had lunch.

After lunch, we took some time to journal our experiences and write about our characters. We shared this with the group. Here's a look at what we came up with:

 CAST OF CHARACTERS

Julie-the-Mermaid (Maya): likes burgers and her favorite color is blue. SHE IS BLUE. She lives with her parents and has no pets.

Annie-the-Dolphin (Risa): Orphan. Has many friends at the orphanage. (Inspired by orphan Annie). She likes discovering things on the surface of the water so she can gather them and decorate her room with them. She has a pet. It's a baby goldfish. And possibly a horse-sized seahorse.

Cindy-the-Mermaid (Hope): Lives with her parents but had to run away from home one time. That's because her parents wouldn't allow her to go to the surface. She still goes when they aren't watching her closely. Like all mermaids, she likes soft soft sand. She has a little sister named Corrine. And they sleep in starfish. The starfish snuggle them while they safely dream. She may also have a horse-sized seahorse.

Juniper-the-Small-Kraken (Emmaline): Lives in a palace in Atlantis. (It looks a lot like the opening shot in Little Mermaid if the whole thing were covered in barnacles). She is the very first Kraken archeologist. This is because her parents never believed in Atlantis and she wanted to prove them wrong. Her best friend is a seven-legged octopus called, Octavia.

Shadow-the-Cat (Tori): She was adopted by fish. Her powers to breath underwater were given to her by a friend, a mermaid named Princess. Her Mom is a goldfish named Goldie. Her Dad was a small catfish who sadly perished on the hook of a fisherman. She has a pet, it's a small seahorse named Milly.

Koala-the-Goldfish (Genevieve): She has one friend in the world named, Leapord Star. She lives in a sunken abandoned ship. She always wanted to meet a Koala Bear and there is a picture of one hanging in the ship where she sleeps. So she named herself.

Once this was done we launched into our favorite game: FREEZE TAG! Did we mention this is our FAVORITE game?!?!?!

Then Miss Deb and Miss Amy changed the rules. And we had to play using gibberish, and then we could only sing what we wanted to say.
 It was SO. MUCH. FUN!

From here we were able to present "Fairies in the Attic". We'd rehearsed it yesterday but ran out of time. There is a second scene but not everyone was here for it so we hope to revisit it sometime soon.

That's when Miss Andie arrived. She was setting up for a craft project at three.

Tomorrow we are going on a field trip. So no Drama Club tomorrow but there will be bowling at MAIN EVENT!

It's gonna be awesome!!!

Basic things are covered but send money if you want your campers to get extra things!
